The toll keeper is the current master of Sable's Crossing. An unscrupulous, hunched-over old man, the toll keeper considers it his duty to raise and lower the barrier, an activity that he claims requires a skilled operator. He often attempted to scam those who wanted to cross the bridge, asking an exorbitant fee based off a nearby chart that he produced.
One of the travellers he attempted to swindle was Gabriel, who attempted to cross the Ironwash River to reach the Shalefields. Rejecting the toll keeper's suggested sum of nine gold pieces, Gabriel instead used the power of his gauntlets to blast the barrier at Betty's insistence.
