The Maori did not adorn anything with gemstones or precious stones but made complete full weapons out of it. They also used the bones of their enemies and wood and seashells. I know all this as its taught in the schools where I live. They didn't just put pieces of stones in their weapons like the Aztec or the Hammerthyst so it shouldn't be put in the trivia. --Alpha Lycos 09:22, December 30, 2010 (UTC)

Maori warhammers do not have greenstone handles, the stone is not hard enough to be effective. Take virtually any type of rock on the planet, make it slender and slam it against something. Chances are it will easily break. Greenstone is inferior to iron and steel both, its probably inferior to many woods also (which absorb impact unlike stone). Its ridiculous to suggest (or construct) a weapon which has a long handle of stone and I specifically changed the article to say decorative stone also, which is what greenstone is considered (its primary use is in statues, jewelry, etc). Maori never used warhammers though. I can go to the local museum and see twenty weapons made purely of greenstone or bone. I have learned about the Maori as they are the native people of my country. I know the weapons they used and how they were made. In one class we had to carve weapons they used so I know how they are made. Their weapons always cut and were never blunt, their form of a club had sharp blade-like edges and the handle was part of the main weapon area. They used them and spears to cut open the heads of their enemies to eat the brains and save the flesh. Or are you saying that my Maori teachers are wrong about their culture and their peoples history which they taught to me? --Alpha Lycos 11:05, December 30, 2010 (UTC)
Yep, the greenstone war hammer is a modern thing made by some people descended from the Maori. I won't change it again, the Carib, Aztec and Cherokee (which I am on the latter) are more my strong suits in old tribal cultures anyway. Mictlantecuhtli 11:12, December 30, 2010 (UTC)
Yea the ones with stones for heads are modern day ceremonial ones. They are basically glued on. The ancient weapons they did use was things like the "Patu". And sorry if my post sounded mad/snappy it wasn't meant to. --Alpha Lycos 11:15, December 30, 2010 (UTC)
