Anni Icon Letter 2 Warning: Spoilers
This section or article may contain spoilers!

Retribution is the final main quest of Fable II, and is split into the following sections:

The Weapon[]

Lord Lucien Fairfax

With the four heroes collected, Theresa gathers them at the top of Hero Hill to summon the weapon. After a brief discussion on Lucien's desires, Theresa gives instructions on how to begin the ritual. Theresa instructs the Hero of Bower Lake to stand on the central pedestal, while the three must stand on the surrounding pedestals that correspond with their prowess. As the three heroes step on, a ray of light shines upon them, each with a different colour. The three light rays align with The Hero of Bower Lake and begin the ritual. A force field forms around The Hero of Bower Lake as their energies link. After a few moments, the ceremony ends, and the links break.

The hero remains behind the force field, but the other three begin to discuss their discomfort. Hammer notices that Theresa is missing, and suddenly four shards appear. The shards summon Lucien himself and his soldiers onto the hill. Lucien scolds the heroes for wasting their power on the old world when they have enough "to build a new one." The soldiers take Hammer, Garth, and Reaver to the spire while Lucien confronts the Hero of Bower Lake. Lucien confesses that he was hasty the night he shot the hero and that he should have gone out into the dark and found their body. If the hero had a spouse or children, Lucien admits to personally killing them to ensure the bloodline never flourishes again. Once more, Lucien draws his pistol and aims it at the hero like he did twenty years previously. Out of protection for their master, the hero's dog jumps before the bullet and dies instantly. After calling the dog a pitiful creature, Lucien aims his pistol and shoots the hero.

A Perfect World[]

Main article: A Perfect World

The hero is put to the test and awarded the music box. They now have the relic and can defeat Lucien.

The Choice[]

Lucien now controls the spire; the hero confronts him and dismantles his power. After he dies, the three heroes are set free, and Theresa arrives on the central platform. With the spire complete, it now has the power to grant one wish. Theresa allows the hero to claim the wish of their choice.

Sacrifice[]

The Needs of the Many

Choosing sacrifice will revive all who died in the spire's reconstruction. All who lost family and friends to the spire will have their loved ones returned to them. The only reward, however, will be the gratitude of Albion. The hero will receive a Letter from the People of Albion and a statue in Bowerstone Old Town erected in their honour.

Anni Icon 223300 Good, 500 Pure (Choice favoured by Hammer)

Sacrifice: This is the most pure and selfless choice you can make. This will bring back thousands of lives lost to the Tattered Spire, but it will not net you any wealth, nor will your loved ones (or even your dog!) return to life. You will not be able to complete any remaining quests that require digging, but the public will erect a statue in your honor.

Love[]

The Needs of the Few

Choosing Love will revive the hero's spouse and children (if applicable.) Their faithful dog and sister Rose will be restored to life. The reward will be just that, the revival of their loved ones. The hero will receive a Letter from Rose and shall find their dog (and family) when they return to land. By choosing Love, the countless innocents who died in building the spire will remain deceased. The people of Albion will have to live with their devastations - knowing that their loved ones will never return home.

(Choice defended by Garth)

Family: Selecting "Family" brings any loved ones who have died-including your dog-back to life. This is still a "good" selection in terms of morality, but it is an impure decision on account of the thousands you are choosing to ignore. That said, you need your dog in order to finish any quests that involve digging and this is the only way to bring him back.**

Wealth[]

The Needs of the One

Choosing Wealth will grant the hero more gold than they can imagine. The reward will be 1,000,000 gold pieces. The hero will receive a note from Theresa and will find wealth beyond the measure of man within the Chamber of Fate. By choosing Wealth, the countless prisoners of the spire and the hero's loved ones will remain dead. The citizens of Albion will seethe with envy.

Anni Icon Evil300 Evil, 500 Corrupt (Choice favoured by Reaver)

Wealth: Only the most selfish of Heroes would turn their backs on their own family and thousands of others in favor of riches, but that is the option you have. Selecting "Wealth" will reward you with untold fortunes and the ability to buy whatever you want. But will it buy you respect? However, as with the Sacrifice option, your dog will not be brought back to life, and you will no longer be able to finish quests that require digging.

Notes[]

  • If you do not kill Lucien fast enough, then Reaver will regain consciousness and kill him before you can, mockingly asking if you wanted to kill him.
  • For each choice there is an achievement. If you wish to receive them all on one playthrough, save your game when you're in the Spire before facing Lucien, make a choice, exit to dashboard, and then reload. Repeat this until you have the achievements you want. The game will automatically save after the credits have rolled and you have received the note, so you must quit and reload before then. Also, it is recommended that you finish with the choice you want to continue with so you don't have to reload after the third choice.
  • ***If players have access to the Knothole Island DLC, they may use Cheet-ur's Crypt to resurrect their dog without choosing the Love choice.
