- The weapon's augments are most likely a reference to British author Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels, one series of which is about Night Watchmen, the most recent entitled "Snuff". The main character in this part of the Discworld series is Sir Samuel Vimes, Commander of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. In "The Fifth Elephant" he battled alone against a horde of Werewolves. The next of the books was "Nightwatch", and the next (the last to come out before the game) is named "Thud!".
- The weapon turns purple and gains an aura of darkness when it is fully upgraded.
