The Hero Weapons (a sword, a hammer, a pistol, and a rifle) are the base weapons in Fable III, for the Hero of Brightwall. Left to him/her by the Last Hero, they each change in visual appearance as you open Combat Chests on the Road to Rule, whether or not they are equipped, and the player can rename them at will, as many times as he/she like. Unfortunately, despite their unique nature, and the importance the story puts on them, they are the weakest weapons in the game - every other weapon which you can find or buy is a superior "legendary" weapon.

Weapon Stats[]

Towards the beginning of the game, you are given the Hero Sword and the Hero Hammer, of which you need to choose which to equip at the time. Later, you can choose between the Hero Pistol and the Hero Rifle. They cannot be sold to pawnbrokers and are always available in the armoury of the Sanctuary.

Magazine Capacity[]

The magazine capacity is the number of shots a ranged weapon can deliver before reloading is necessary. This number increases based on the ranged level chests opened on the Road to Rule. (see table below)

Hero Level Hero Pistol Hero Rifle

1 4 3
2 5 4
3 6 5
4 7 6

Morphing[]

Anni Icon Letter 2 Warning: Spoilers
This section or article may contain spoilers!

Your starting hero weapons will change in appearance through your progression as you level up your melee or ranged fighting skills using the combat chests along the Road to Rule – this will happen regardless of whether or not you actively use your hero weapons. Utilising certain abilities, such as the Fireball spell, will cause the weapons to alter, becoming more intricate and legendary in appearance. Additional alterations can occur by utilising all the additional gauntlets, killing a certain number of hollow men, bandits, wolves or other specific enemies. Your moral standing amongst the citizens of Albion will also cause your weapons to change from whether you are good (pale blue runes) or evil (red runes).

There are five stages of evolution and all are permanent; with the exception of the colour of the runes which will still change with any shift in the Hero's morality.

When you open a weapon level chest, your weapon will morph and change based upon a percentage value from your prior actions. Each level of chest will morph a certain part of your weapon:

  • Chest 1 - Adds runes on your weapon, the colour of which depends on your current moral alignment.
  • Chest 2 - Morphs the hilt, handle or grip of your weapon.
  • Chest 3 - Morphs the blade, body or barrel of the weapon. Some barrel morphs add shotgun spray to the firearm.
  • Chest 4 - Changes the colours of the weapon. Primary colour change to the body and handle of the weapon, secondary colour change to the hilt and other decorative parts.
  • Chest 5 - Gives your weapon an aura of a certain style. Hammer heads and sword blades morph larger, and firearm barrels become longer.

It is highly recommended that you save the game before you open a chest. This is so you can change your weapon's morph if it is something you do not like. Do not leave or warp to another area (except from the Road to Rule to the Sanctuary) as this will autosave and overwrite your game, leaving you stuck with the morph you were given. You only have to conduct the actions required for the morph once; however, the more you conduct an action required for a morph the greater the chance there is for that morph to appear. If the morph you desire does not appear within a few attempts, leave the Road and perform more actions leading up to that morph in order to increase your chances.

To "pick" a weapon morph, there is a simple method available using the console co-op feature. After fulfilling your requirements, start the game with your co-op character. You can then use the desired chest on the road to rule and simply leave and rejoin if it's not the one you want.

It also appears that the progression for each stage is designed to correspond with activities that are readily available either around or just prior to being able to open the chest containing that level of upgrade. This is why there are no balverine-themed hilts, for example. It is highly recommended that if you are attempting to design a particular flavour of weapon that you focus on progressing the story and performing the required activity specifically and avoid optional activities. For example, it would be unwise to amass a large quantity of gold or own property if you are attempting to obtain an Organic blade.
