The Gravekeeper is the caretaker of the Lychfield Graveyard in Fable, Fable: The Lost Chapters and Fable Anniversary. He first appears during the quest The Graveyard Path, when the Hero journeys to Lychfield Graveyard seeking the secret path to Bargate Prison.

When the Hero arrives at the graveyard, he encounters two villagers who inform him that the gravekeeper has locked the cemetery gates and is refusing to open them. When he approaches the gravekeeper's hut, he eavesdrops on a conversation between the gravekeeper and a friend. The gravekeeper is boasting about stealing some valuable armour from a crypt, which he has hidden throughout the graveyard until he can sell it.

When the Hero makes his presence and intentions known, the gravekeeper unlocks the gates and accompanies him to a crypt at the rear of the cemetery: the tomb of Nostro the gatekeeper. Upon opening the crypt, the ghostly voice of Nostro pleads with the Hero to return his stolen armour. In return, Nostro will grant him access to the nearby Demon Door and the path beyond. The Hero succeeded in recovering the four stolen armour pieces and ventured on to the Old Graveyard Path.

Notes

  • In Fable, the Gravekeeper's only purpose in the quest is to unlock the cemetery gates. Afterwards, he will roam the cemetery until he is likely killed by the undead inside. He will disappear once the player leaves the area. However, in Fable: The Lost Chapters and Fable Anniversary, his role is expanded slightly. After unlocking the gate, he will follow the Hero throughout the graveyard (but can be ordered to wait) and will make comments on the area and when the Hero recovers armour pieces. He can even accompany the Hero on the Old Graveyard Path (and potentially beyond), but will almost certainly be killed by the hordes of undead there.
