Mr. Gout is a character featured in Fable, Fable: The Lost Chapters and Fable Anniversary. He is headmaster of and teacher at the public school located in Bowerstone South.

Collect the Hero Dolls []

In Fable, Mr. Gout plays a minor role in the Bronze Quest Collect the Hero Dolls, in which he gives the Hero his rare Jack of Blades doll in exchange for six other dolls scattered across Albion. In Fable: The Lost Chapters, there are seven dolls to be collected in return for the Jack of Blades doll.

Book Collection[]

In Fable: The Lost Chapters, Mr. Gout can be approached regarding the school's collection of books. He will explain that Lady Elvira Grey, the Mayor of Bowerstone, has sold off over half the school's library to commission the Manor. He asks the Hero to provide the school with 25 books to be used to teach the children. When provided with a book, he either performs a lesson or puts on a dramatic reading or play in summary of the works. As a reward, Mr. Gout and his students will give the Hero a Bright Wizard Hat or a Dark Wizard Hat, depending on the books donated.

Notes[]

  • Mr. Gout appears in the updated Fable Anniversary for the Xbox 360.
  • He is only mentioned by name in Fable: The Lost Chapters.
  • Mr. Gout is chronically late in the mornings and will always arrive at the school well after his students.
  • He will follow the Hero regardless of morality alignment.
  • During Book Collection, if the "Book of Spells" is donated, Mr. Gout will remark, "The book of spells? This isn't some potty school of wizards, you know!" This is likely a reference to the Harry Potter series of books.
  • Mr. Gout's appearance varies and takes the form of any random male NPC. His appearance is selected the moment the hero enters Bowerstone South for the first time.
  • It has been noted that some adventurers are unable to return the dolls but no one knows why this happens.
